Daily Market Report – January 16, 2026

The stock market is once again led by semiconductors: Micron MU is up more than 5% today.

GE Vernova GEV is also rising by more than 5%. The boost comes from political signals: Trump and several governors support a plan aimed at accelerating the expansion of electricity generation—against the backdrop of the ongoing AI/Data Center boom and rising electricity prices. Investors are betting that GE Vernova will benefit from increased demand and service contracts—from gas and steam turbines to onshore and offshore turbines, as well as grid technology such as transformers, switchgear, and substations needed for a more stable power supply.

Novo Nordisk NVO (or Novo-B in Copenhagen) is also seeing significant gains. The drivers are encouraging early U.S. prescription data for the Wegovy pill, along with additional support from the UK after the UK authority approved a higher Wegovy dosage.

Politics/Fed noise: Trump publicly praised Kevin Hassett and hinted at wanting to keep him in the White House; Hassett is considered a monetary dove and maintains a close relationship with the U.S. President, which disqualifies him for all those concerned about the independence of the U.S. Federal Reserve.
