Daily Market Report – January 26, 2026
Monday, January 26, 2026, 1:00 PM ET:
US stocks were trading higher. Many investors are gearing up for a busy week as numerous companies are reporting earnings this week: - UnitedHealth UNH (Tue., 1/27/2026) - LVMH MC (Tue., 1/27/2026) - Microsoft MSFT (Wed., 1/28/2026) - Meta Platforms META (Wed., 1/28/2026) - Tesla TSLA (Wed., 1/28/2026) - Apple AAPL (Thu., 1/29/2026) - ASML ASML (Thu., 1/29/2026) - Exxon Mobil XOM (Fri., 1/30/2026)
Additionally, the Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee will announce its first interest rate decision of 2026 on Wednesday at 2:00 PM ET. It is expected that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged (target range 3.50% to 3.75%). Gold rose to new record levels above $5,000 per ounce. Silver increased by over 10 percent today. The drivers were heightened caution in the markets, a weaker dollar, and geopolitical uncertainties. Japan: The yen strengthened significantly; speculation about currency market interventions played a role. This weighed on stocks in Tokyo.
Among the largest stocks by market capitalization, two movements stood out today: Arista Networks ANET: +5.8%. The investment boost in data centers continues to provide tailwinds. However, the daily increase seemed more driven by reallocations and market sentiment than by a single piece of news. Intel INTC: -5.4%. After the drop following a weak outlook late last week, the stock remained under pressure. Ongoing bottlenecks and delays in ramp-up, as well as an outlook that falls short of expectations, remain in focus.
