Daily Market Report – February 26, 2026
The stock markets took a hit on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as Nvidia NVDA failed to provide the hoped-for reassurance for AI stocks despite very strong numbers and an ambitious outlook: The stock slid about 5%, dragging chip stocks down worldwide. The Nasdaq 100 NDX fell by around 1.7%, while the S&P 500 SPX dropped by about 1.1%. Broadcom AVGO declined by more than 6% – Nvidia's results triggered a wave of selling in semiconductor companies.
U.S. Treasuries were in demand, with the yield on the ten-year Treasuries US10Y falling by a few basis points. The U.S. dollar DXY strengthened. At the same time, the day showed how selectively investors are now acting: Software stocks, in particular, managed to hold up better. Salesforce CRM eased concerns that AI could "automate away" established business models in the short term with long-term goals and a large stock buyback program.
