Daily Market Report – May 25, 2026
Today's trading day is characterized worldwide by holidays. In Germany, it is Whit Monday, and in the USA, it is Memorial Day. The major US stock exchanges are closed, which means that the futures markets play a particularly important role in global price discovery today.
Futures on the Dow Jones (YM1!)) are currently up about 0.9%, the S&P 500 futures (ES1!)) are up about 1%, and the Nasdaq 100 futures (NQ1!)) are up around 1.4%. Particularly, technology stocks are showing strength as markets react to falling oil prices and hopes for geopolitical easing.
WTI Crude Oil (USOIL)) temporarily loses more than 6%. The background is reports of progress in talks between the USA and Iran. Falling energy prices temporarily reduce inflation and interest rate fears, thereby particularly supporting growth and AI-related stocks.
Since the US cash markets are closed, today's movements in the futures markets carry more weight than usual. At the same time, liquidity remains reduced, which means that even smaller orders can cause larger fluctuations. Institutional investors are therefore particularly monitoring the development of the Nasdaq-100 futures as an indicator for tomorrow's US opening.
European markets are also trending positively. The DAX (DAX)) benefits from the positive futures sentiment from the USA, while the Euro Stoxx 50 (Euro Stoxx (50))) is slightly gaining despite low holiday trading volumes. Investors are already looking ahead to next week with important corporate earnings as well as new US economic data.
