Daily Market Report – May 27, 2026
The stock markets traded unevenly but remained close to their recent highs. The S&P 500 (SPX) barely moved, the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) trended weaker, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) was supported by more defensive sectors. In Europe, the DAX (DAX) held strong near its recent highs. However, market breadth was narrower than in previous days: technology and semiconductor stocks faced profit-taking after the strong AI rally, while consumer and healthcare stocks were in demand.
The most important impulse came from the commodity market. Brent (UKOIL) and WTI (USOIL) fell significantly as part of the geopolitical risk premium disappeared from oil prices. This temporarily eased inflation expectations and dampened pressure on interest-sensitive stocks. Gold (GOLD) also lost value as demand for safe havens decreased. The US 10-year yield (US10Y) remained a central driver for growth stocks; the Euro/US Dollar (EURUSD) showed relative stability. For Germany, the growth outlook for 2026 was lowered. Higher energy prices, geopolitical uncertainty, and trade policy risks weigh on economic expectations, while structural weaknesses in the industry persist.
In the earnings season, there was a clear divergence between consumer stocks and software values. Bath & Body Works (BBWI) rose significantly after the company performed better than expected in adjusted earnings despite a decline in revenue. Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) saw a double-digit increase as revenue and profit exceeded expectations and demand for the core brands remained robust. In contrast, Zscaler (ZS) plummeted: while revenue and profit were above expectations, the outlook and changes in sales affected confidence in further growth dynamics. Marvell Technology (MRVL) faced pressure ahead of its numbers as investors set higher demands for revenue growth, margins, and order dynamics following the strong AI rally. After the market close, attention turns to Salesforce (CRM), Snowflake (SNOW), and Marvell Technology (MRVL); their numbers will show whether software, cloud, and AI infrastructure can continue to justify the high expectations.
