Daily Market Report – June 16, 2026

Markets

On Wall Street, a rotation continued on Tuesday: The Dow Jones (DJI) reached a record high, while the S&P 500 (SPX) and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) declined. The yield on the 10-year US Treasury bond (US10Y) fell slightly; the 2-year US Treasury bond (US02Y) was also influenced by the upcoming Fed decision. Brent (UKOIL) and WTI (USOIL) fell significantly as easing tensions in the Middle East reduced the risk premium in oil prices.

Companies

The previously strong-performing AI and semiconductor stocks lost momentum. Nvidia (NVDA), Micron Technology (MU), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) were under pressure. In the case of Micron Technology (MU), the decline is less about doubts regarding AI memory demand and more about profit-taking after an extraordinary rally and ahead of the quarterly results on June 24.

Financial values developed in opposite directions. JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Bank of America (BAC), and Wells Fargo (WFC) benefited from the shift from highly valued technology stocks to broader market segments.

Macroeconomics

US economic data was weak. The Housing Starts reported by the Census Bureau fell in May by 15.4 percent to an annualized 1.177 million units; the Building Permits fell by 0.7 percent to 1.413 million. Residential construction remains a weak point of the US economy.

At the same time, the Import Prices published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics rose by 1.9 percent in May, while the Export Prices increased by 1.3 percent. This creates a familiar tension for the Federal Reserve: weaker real economy, but still no convincingly broken price pressure.
