The yield on ten-year U.S. Treasury bonds (US10Y) decreased by 0.48 percent to 4.55 percent.
Company The stocks of the semiconductor industry recorded significant gains, driven by positive sentiment and optimistic assessments regarding demand development. Micron Technology (MU) was among the biggest winners in the sector, with an increase of 7.24 percent to $1,017.54. Similarly, Lam Research (LRCX) rose by 7.03 percent to $356.56. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) also benefited, climbing 6.87 percent to $552.98. Applied Materials (AMAT) gained 6.75 percent, trading at $609.00, while KLA (KLAC) increased by 6.50 percent to $235.55. The South Korean memory chip manufacturer SK Hynix (000660) also recorded a remarkable price development with an increase of 5.30 percent to 2,186,000 won. This broad upward movement in the semiconductor sector reflects the persistently high demand for chips and equipment for data centers as well as in the field of artificial intelligence. In contrast, the shares of AstraZeneca (AZN) fell by 5.35 percent to 179.15 British pounds. Market participants took profits after the stock had significantly risen over the weeks. Investors apparently reassessed the business prospects of several pharmaceutical companies. Some analysts lowered their price targets for several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, leading to a broader correction in the sector. Furthermore, uncertainties regarding future drug approvals and patent expirations weighed on sentiment. The shares of other major pharmaceutical companies such as Novartis and Sanofi also showed weakness, albeit to a lesser extent. The market is looking ahead to the upcoming IPO of SK hynix on Nasdaq on Friday, which is considered one of the largest capital market transactions in recent years. The issuance of the American Depositary Shares faced very high demand and was reportedly oversubscribed multiple times. The US listing will broaden the international investor base and help reduce the valuation discount compared to American semiconductor companies like Micron or Nvidia (NVDA).
Macroeconomics Investor attention continued to focus on developments in Iran and the commodity markets. The declining oil prices were reflected in the drop of WTI crude oil by 1.85 percent to $72.16 per barrel and Brent crude oil by 1.79 percent to $76.62 per barrel. The price of natural gas also fell significantly by 5.92 percent to $3.02 per million British Thermal Units. At the same time, precious metals such as gold and silver saw significant price increases. Gold rose by 1.43 percent, while silver increased by 3.99 percent.
