Daily Market Report – July 13, 2026
Markets
The financial markets are starting nervously into a pivotal week. A renewed escalation of the conflict between the USA and Iran caused oil prices to rise significantly and particularly burdened technology and semiconductor stocks. At the same time, investors are waiting for the American inflation data as well as the start of the earnings season, which is likely to set the pace in the capital markets in the coming days.
The European stock market proved to be relatively robust. The STOXX Europe 600 (SXXP) only slightly declined, while energy companies benefited from rising oil prices. On Wall Street, the futures on Dow Jones, S&P 500 (SPX), and Nasdaq were in the red. Semiconductor stocks were particularly under pressure after investors took profits following the strong performance of recent months.
On the bond market, the yields on American government bonds rose slightly. The market anticipates increasing inflationary pressure due to higher energy prices and a correspondingly cautious monetary policy from the Federal Reserve.
With the quarterly results of the US industrial supplier Fastenal, the unofficial earnings season for the second quarter begins today. Later in the week, the major American banks will follow. Their results will be seen as an important indicator for the development of credit demand, corporate investments, and consumption.
In the technology sector, attention remains focused on the semiconductor industry. Following the strong price gains of recent months, there have been significant profit-taking worldwide. The development shows how sensitive the sector has become to changes in interest rate expectations.
Macroeconomics
The most important release of the week occurs on Tuesday with the US Consumer Prices (CPI). They will be crucial in determining whether the recently increased inflationary pressure is confirmed and how much room the Federal Reserve has for its further monetary policy. On Wednesday, the US Producer Prices (PPI) will follow, and on Thursday, retail sales will be released.
