Daily Market Report – August 3, 2026

Markets The S&P 500 (SPX) closed 1.48 percent higher at 7,601 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) increased by 1.78 percent to 28,777 points, while the Dow Jones (DJI) rose by 1.32 percent to 53,178 points. In Europe, the DAX (DAX) gained 1.45 percent to 26,001 points. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds (US10Y) fell by nearly 6 basis points to 4.69 percent. WTI crude oil (CL1!) decreased by 5.41 percent to $80.09 following progress in talks regarding shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Company Palantir (PLTR) raised its annual outlook after a better than expected second quarter and strong growth in its American business. Oracle (ORCL) gained 9.22 percent to $141.85, Meta Platforms (META) rose by 6.02 percent to $590.24. Amazon (AMZN) continued its price gains following the earnings report, supported by demand for cloud and AI capabilities.

Boeing (BA) rose by 8.03 percent to 233.49 dollars after the approval of the 737 Max 7 by the American aviation authority. Samsung Electronics (005930) lost 8.76 percent to 239,500 won. SK Hynix (000660) fell by 8.79 percent to 1,567,000 won.

AstraZeneca (AZN) fell by 6.88 percent to 157.97 dollars following reports of talks with Bristol Myers Squibb about a possible merger. Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) gained 6.25 percent to 375.41 dollars. UBS (UBSG) had to pay 125 million dollars due to insufficient money laundering controls in the United States.

Williams (WMB) agreed to acquire Momentum Midstream for up to $5.5 billion, thereby expanding its gas pipeline network along the American Gulf Coast. Visa (V) plans to acquire the fraud specialist BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash.

Macroeconomics According to the White House, President Donald Trump described the talks with Iran as the last chance for an agreement. At the same time, Iran and Oman were negotiating an expansion of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The BLS will publish the American jobs report for July on Friday, which is crucial for assessing employment, inflation, and the monetary policy of the Fed. The president of the New York Fed, John Williams, pointed to a diminishing inflationary pressure.
