Daily Market Report – August 4, 2026

Markets The prospect of an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz drove the S&P 500 (SPX) up 1.79 percent to 7,737 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) gained 3.32 percent to 29,733 points. The Dow Jones (DJI) closed 1.71 percent higher at 54,086 points. In Frankfurt, the DAX (DAX) rose by 0.77 percent to 26,202 points. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds (US10Y) fell by nearly 6 basis points to 4.63 percent. Company Space (SPCX) presented its first quarterly report - the stock fell in after-hours trading. Palantir (PLTR), on the other hand, rose by 29.45 percent to $162.66 after the release of the results and due to the accelerated demand in the US business.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) gained 7.00 percent to $518.58 despite a revenue outlook that was received as disappointing. Intel (INTC) rose 10.84 percent to $100.86 in the broad upswing of semiconductor stocks. Supported by demand for memory technology for AI data centers, Micron Technology (MU) increased 7.62 percent to $892.67. Broadcom (AVGO) gained 6.61 percent to $418.16. Lam Research (LRCX) increased by 7.85 percent to $317.74, Qualcomm (QCOM) by 7.32 percent to $162.67.

Novo Nordisk (NVO) lost 5.97 percent to $44.28 after the outlook and weaker signals for the Wegovy tablet. BP (BP) reported a significant increase in profits and the planned sale of its American biogas business.

Toyota (7203) raised its outlook supported by the weak yen and announced a share buyback.

Caterpillar (CAT) rose by 5.60 percent to 876.54 dollars. Applied Materials (AMAT) gained 5.48 percent to 546.62 dollars, Texas Instruments (TXN) 5.42 percent to 283.63 dollars, and Cisco Systems (CSCO) 5.08 percent to 121.74 dollars.
