Daily Market Report – August 13, 2026
Markets After unexpectedly unchanged US producer prices, the S&P 500 (SPX) closed 0.65 percent higher at 7,799 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) gained 1.15 percent to 30,085 points. The DAX (DAX) fell 0.12 percent to 26,300 points, while the Nikkei 225 (NI225) rose 1.16 percent to 68,309 points. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds (US10Y) decreased by about four basis points to 4.64 percent, although the auction of thirty-year securities brought the highest financing costs since 2001. WTI crude oil (USOIL) decreased by 2.47 percent to $81.21. Gold (GOLD) fell by 1.35 percent to $4,407.10.
Company Workday (WDAY) recorded its strongest daily increase in ten years following a report of acquisition interest from Silver Lake. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) received court approval for its settlement with the US Department of Justice regarding the acquisition of Juniper Networks.
Cisco (CSCO) lost 8.40 percent to $113.47 after the forecast for sales of AI data centers missed investor expectations. Applied Materials (AMAT) faced a muted reaction despite a forecast that exceeded estimates following the previous price rally. SK Hynix (000660) gained 5.92 percent to 1,593,000 won amid the recovering demand for AI memory chips. TSMC (TSM) came into focus with a partnership with Sony.
Apple (AAPL) must face a proceeding regarding commissions for sales outside its App Store after the Supreme Court rejected an emergency application. Alphabet (GOOGL) introduced a new version of Gemini Flash but still did not provide a date for its most powerful model. Intuit (INTU) rose by 7.04 percent to $358.29. Netflix (NFLX) increased by 5.43 percent to $78.24, while Shopify (SHOP) gained 5.40 percent to 158.53 Canadian dollars.
Volkswagen (VOW3) was in the spotlight following the European approval of a billion-dollar project and new demands for clarity regarding endangered locations. BP (BP) led a Venezuelan gas project through which companies from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are entering the market for the first time. Tyson Foods (TSN) announced the closure of additional processing plants due to the ongoing US beef shortage.
Macroeconomics According to the BLS, the US Producer Prices stagnated in July compared to the previous month. An increase of 0.2 percent had been expected. The weaker price development supported expectations for interest rate cuts. According to the BoJ, monetary policy remained oriented towards a possible further tightening. Nevertheless, the yen continued to approach the mark of 160 against the dollar. According to the White House, the US government was considering additional economic pressure on Iran. Thus, sanctions and supply chain risks in the Middle East remained in focus.
