Daily Market Report – August 25, 2026
Markets
The S&P 500 (SPX) closed 0.23 percent higher at 7,671 points ahead of the upcoming Nvidia numbers. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) gained 0.52 percent to 29,173 points. In Frankfurt, the DAX (DAX) rose 0.50 percent to 26,266 points, while the Hang Seng (HSI) lost 1.92 percent to 25,511 points. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds (US10Y) fell by 5.9 basis points to 4.65 percent. Brent crude oil (UKOIL) decreased by 3.62 percent to $87.26 per barrel, after higher Iraqi loadings and diplomatic signals regarding the Strait of Hormuz had reduced supply risks.
Company
Nvidia (NVDA) was in the spotlight ahead of the earnings report. Investors assessed the sustainability of demand for AI accelerators and investments in data centers. Apple (AAPL) introduced new models of the Mac mini and Mac Studio with more powerful processors and AI features. Alphabet (GOOGL) plans to launch driverless ride services in Germany through Waymo by the end of 2027. The company chose Munich as the first location in the European Union.
Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS) lowered its annual outlook because the acquired Foot Locker division was struggling and consumers remained cautious. Uber (UBER) is introducing an optional video streaming feature for parents or guardians during rides with minors. Alibaba's (BABA) AI investments received support after co-founder Jack Ma reportedly purchased shares of the company.
Volkswagen (VOW3) came under pressure from the works council with its cost-cutting strategy. The council warned of the reduction of up to 115,000 jobs in Germany. Siemens Energy (ENR) is reportedly considering a spin-off of its steam turbine business. Airbus (AIR) benefits from the planned expansion of the long-haul offerings by United Airlines, which intends to use A321XLR aircraft for this purpose.
Deutsche Bank (DBK) is facing a criminal proceeding against a former employee for the embezzlement of client funds. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) has come into focus because a Japanese insurer supported by it is seeking a billion-dollar acquisition target. SpaceX (SPCX) is at the center of relaxed credit conditions. A major bank is thereby facilitating loans for employees and investors that are secured by non-public equity interests.
Macroeconomics
According to White House, the US government is preparing to revoke up to 200,000 visas. At the same time, Canadian counter-tariffs on US goods worth 20 billion dollars intensified the trade conflict. The ifo published its business climate for August. The index is considered (GB10Y) a barometer for the German economy and the investment willingness of companies. US consumer confidence fell by 0.8 points to 89.4 in August, marking the lowest level since the beginning of the year. This increased doubts about consumer dynamics.
