Daily Market Report – August 29, 2026
Markets
The S&P 500 (SPX) closed 0.25 percent lower at 7,712 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) lost 0.70 percent to 29,433 points. In contrast, the DAX (DAX) rose 0.77 percent to 26,570 points. The yield on ten-year U.S. Treasury bonds (US10Y) increased by about 5 basis points to 4.72 percent. Gold (GOLD) decreased by 2.88 percent to $4,529.90.
Company
Meta Platforms (META) came into focus due to an agreement to protect underage users and its regulatory signaling effect for social networks. As SpaceX (SPCX) has acquired the provider Cursor, OpenAI announced it would end the partnership with the AI programming service. Siemens (SIE) warned in the debate about data centers and artificial intelligence against excessive regulation.
Volkswagen (VOW3) is under pressure ahead of consultations with the board, employee representatives, and politics. Previously, reports about internal differences and a power struggle at the top of the company had emerged. Goodyear (GT) continued its transformation with restructuring, refinancing, and debt reduction. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) came into focus due to the recently weak stock performance, although Warren Buffett continues his operational role.
Airbus (AIR) is reportedly considering the sale of its US aerospace business and is aligning satellite production more towards Europe. Glencore (GLEN) is reportedly facing a lawsuit threat of 1.4 billion dollars from the commodity trader Radiant. IMAX (IMAX) pointed to the high cinema demand for large-format screenings, which supports the licensing and technology business.
Lam Research (LRCX) lost 5.24 percent to $301.90. At Salesforce (CRM), attention turned to investments in artificial intelligence following the recent earnings report.
Macroeconomics
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh explained that the central bank must act if inflation does not clearly and swiftly return to the target of 2 percent. At the same time, he described the US economy as strong. The probability that the Fed will raise interest rates at its next meeting in mid-September has significantly increased.
