Daily Market Report – September 2, 2026

Markets

The S&P 500 (SPX) closed 0.45 percent higher at 7,666 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) rose by 0.17 percent to 29,128 points. The Dow Jones (DJI) gained 0.57 percent to 53,066 points, while the DAX (DAX) lost 0.50 percent to 25,839 points. In Asia, the Nikkei 225 (NI225) fell by 2.85 percent to 64,326 points. Due to the fighting over the Strait of Hormuz, Brent crude oil (UKOIL) increased by 0.98 percent to $95.58 per barrel.

Company

Uber (UBER) will reduce 10 percent of its workforce or 3,300 positions as part of its restructuring. At the same time, the company receives the approval of the board of Delivery Hero for its nearly 15 billion dollar takeover bid. Deutsche Telekom (DTE) came into the focus of investors after the activist investor Elliott entered and opposed a possible merger with the American subsidiary.

Nvidia (NVDA) is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire the AI platform Hugging Face for around 14 billion dollars. Given the high demand for AI and traditional servers, Dell (DELL) significantly raised its annual revenue outlook. Alphabet (GOOGL) does not have to spin off its advertising technology business following a court ruling, but must open the systems for competing offerings. Broadcom (AVGO) came under pressure ahead of the earnings report.

KKR (KKR) reportedly generates proceeds of $3.3 billion from the sale of the insurance broker USI to Aon for $17 billion. Eli Lilly (LLY) agreed to acquire Merida Biosciences for up to $2.88 billion in cash, thereby expanding its business in autoimmune and allergy therapies. Chevron (CVX) committed to investments of $7 billion and plans to double its oil production in Venezuela. BP (BP) appointed the former interim chairman Ian Tyler permanently as the chairman of the board.

At Commerzbank (CBK), comments from CEO Bettina Orlopp regarding her personal future in the event of a takeover by UniCredit occupied investors. Palantir (PLTR) lost 6.08 percent to $168.98 and continued its recent price correction.

Macroeconomics

Donald Trump described the renewed attacks by the USA on Iran as likely to be short and claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz. This left the risk of further disruptions to energy supply intact.
