In Europe, the DAX (DAX) fell by 0.15 percent to 26,007 points. The Nikkei 225 (NI225) rose by 2.12 percent to 66,400 points. In USD/JPY (USDJPY), the dollar lost 1.20 percent against the yen to 154.35 yen.
Company
The strong demand for semiconductor stocks drove SK Hynix (000660) up by 8.26 percent. Samsung Electronics (005930) gained 5.68 percent,
Volkswagen (VOW3) agreed to convert its plant in Osnabrück from automobile production to air defense technology.
Novartis (NOVN) came under pressure after the failure of a heart medication. Novo Nordisk (NVO) reported study successes with a weight reduction drug for children but simultaneously halted two investigations into a heart medication.
Deutsche Bank (DBK) reached a settlement with a former manager in a legal dispute over 152 million euros. Netflix Stock (NFLX) fell by 5.35 percent.
Macroeconomics
According to the White House, the US government intensified its trade policy threats against Canada and announced additional tariffs on refined copper (COPPER). This increased uncertainty for metal and aerospace imports. The ECB came under political pressure from France again after its interest rate hikes. In light of public demands from the US government for interest rate cuts, the calendar of the Fed remained crucial for the next monetary policy decisions.
