Daily Market Report – September 8, 2026
Markets
The S&P 500 (SPX) fell by 0.41 percent to 7,687 points ahead of the interest rate decision by the Federal Reserve. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) remained nearly unchanged at 29,552 points. The Dow Jones (DJI) lost 1.10 percent to 52,825 points. In Frankfurt, the DAX (DAX) decreased by 0.15 percent to 26,008 points. The Nikkei 225 (NI225) dropped by 1.70 percent to 65,269 points. Brent crude oil (UKOIL) increased by 1.16 percent to $97.40 per barrel following new sanctions against Iran's aviation sector and attacks on Saudi energy facilities.
Company
Qualcomm (QCOM) agreed with Amazon to deliver customized AI chips. As part of the collaboration designed for multiple product generations, the chip manufacturer granted its customer stock purchase rights amounting to up to 4 billion dollars. Amazon (AMZN) is thus expanding its procurement of data center technology while also obtaining an equity option in the supplier. Intel (INTC) gained 9.14 percent to 104.56 dollars following reports of further price increases. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) rose by 6.29 percent to 507.60 dollars in the same industry environment.
ASML (ASML) received new commitments from major chip manufacturers for its latest generation of high-NA EUV systems. TSMC (TSM) committed to using the most advanced lithography systems for the next manufacturing generation.
Novartis (NOVN) fell by 13.81 percent to 137.90 francs after three setbacks in clinical trials, including one for a neuromuscular drug. Amgen (AMGN) lost 9.94 percent to 393.76 dollars amid new doubts about the market for cholesterol-lowering drugs. AstraZeneca (AZN) reported positive results from two late-stage studies with the COPD drug Tozorakimab.
Bombardier (BBD.B) came under pressure after the US President tied the sale of Canadian aircraft in the United States to additional production in the country. Volkswagen (VOW3) is reportedly considering a sale of Ducati. At the same time, orders for the ID. Polo are exceeding internal expectations. Shopify (SHOP) fell by 7.18 percent to 134.67 Canadian dollars, Intuit (INTU) lost 5.69 percent to 313.77 dollars. Booking (BKNG) declined by 5.55 percent to 182.57 dollars, ServiceNow (NOW) by 5.16 percent to 133.97 dollars.
Macroeconomics
The monetary policy decision of the Fed was in focus. A rate hike of 25 basis points is expected in the markets. According to the White House, the United States intensified its sanctions against companies supporting Iran's aviation sector. This increased the pressure on Tehran's transport and trade connections.
