Daily Market Report – September 16, 2026
Markets
The first interest rate hike by the Fed since 2023 pushed the S&P 500 (SPX) down by 0.45 percent to 7,552 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) closed nearly unchanged at 28,945 points. The Dow Jones (DJI) lost 1.21 percent to 51,462 points. In contrast, the DAX (DAX) gained 0.53 percent to 25,538 points. Brent crude oil (UKOIL) decreased by 3.01 percent to $105.48 per barrel.
Company
Alphabet (GOOGL) is reportedly participating together with Blackstone in the cloud project Crux AI. A consortium of banks is providing financing of 22 billion dollars for this. Blackstone (BX) is focusing on the capital-intensive expansion of computing and chip capacities with the initiative. Microsoft (MSFT) entered the debate on security standards after the company's AI chief warned about the risks of human-like designed systems. TSMC (TSM) reportedly pointed to the increasing demand due to the AI expansion, but also to the associated risks for the chip company.
Boeing (BA) announced that the stabilization of production of the 737 Max is taking longer than expected. Due to higher fuel costs, United Airlines (UAL) is considering further capacity reductions in the fourth quarter. American Airlines (AAL) also indicated a lower supply for the same reason. Southwest Airlines (LUV) sees room for higher ticket prices in light of the high jet fuel prices.
Apple (AAPL) is in the spotlight following the presentation of its new iPhone offerings due to pricing and cautious analyst assessments. Volkswagen (VOW3) is reportedly postponing the electric A4 at Audi and the introduction of a new corporate platform. Uber (UBER) is expanding its delivery partnership with Costco to 47 U.S. states.
GFL Environmental (GFL) is considering offers for a withdrawal from the stock market, according to the chairman of the board. A decision has not yet been made. Deutsche Bank (DBK) is starting to custody cryptocurrencies for professional investors.
Macroeconomics
According to the Fed, the FOMC unanimously raised the key interest rate by 0.25 percentage points to a range of 3.75 to 4.00 percent and signaled another step in the current year. As reported by the Census Bureau, the US retail sales increased, thereby highlighting the robust consumer demand ahead of the interest rate decision. According to the BoE, British inflation reached its highest level in five months before the next interest rate decision, increasing the monetary policy pressure.
