Daily Market Report – October 2, 2026
Markets
The weak US labor market report caused the S&P 500 (SPX) to rise by 0.70 percent to 7,720 points and the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) to increase by 1.07 percent to 30,826 points, as it heightened expectations for a slower interest rate increase by the US Federal Reserve, thereby nurturing the outlook for lower financing costs and higher valuations. The DAX (DAX) closed 1.17 percent higher at 25,231 points. In contrast, the Hang Seng (HSI) lost 2.60 percent to 23,972 points. Following the announced release of strategic reserves, WTI crude oil (CL1!) decreased by 2.48 percent to $90.57. Gold (GOLD) fell by 0.87 percent to $4,165.60.
Company
New inflows into AI stocks drove Nvidia (NVDA) to a record high for the first time since May. Broadcom (AVGO) came into the spotlight due to reports of financing for AI chips for Anthropic and other customers. Texas Instruments (TXN) gained 5.07 percent to $295.56.
Onsemi (ON) changed the terms for the acquisition of Synaptics and is now focusing on a cash transaction. Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (AMZN) came under scrutiny due to the European digital regulations regarding the intensified examination of their cloud divisions. Accenture (ACN) fell by 5.04 percent to $201.60.
Tesla (TSLA) reported 486,532 deliveries for the third quarter. This exceeded the headline expectation of 463,761 vehicles but fell short of the previous year's figure. Ford (F) claimed the third position in the US automotive market ahead of Hyundai in the third quarter. Volkswagen (VOW3) came under scrutiny due to the conflict between management and IG Metall regarding the company's direction.
Eli Lilly (LLY) is increasingly aligning its obesity research alongside GLP-1 with the active ingredient approach Amylin. Novo Nordisk (NVO) is pursuing the same approach to advance its business beyond the current generation of weight loss products.
Nike (NKE) expanded its restructuring with job cuts and a five-year savings program. American Airlines (AAL) now allows customers to pay for flight tickets with a combination of cash and bonus miles.
Macroeconomics
According to the BLS, 29,000 jobs were created outside of agriculture in September. At the same time, the unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent, which reduced the pressure on the Fed for another interest rate hike. According to Eurostat, inflation in the Eurozone increased to 3.8 percent in September, reaching the highest level in three years. This narrowed the scope for the ECB. According to the White House, the G7 and partner countries agreed to release up to 100 million barrels of oil and diesel from emergency reserves to alleviate the price pressure on fuels.
