Daily Market Report – August 6, 2026
Markets Concerns about interest rates and the escalation of the conflict over the Strait of Hormuz pushed the S&P 500 (SPX) down by 0.18 percent to 7,710 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) lost 0.39 percent to 29,373 points. The Dow Jones (DJI) decreased by 0.85 percent, closing at 53,885 points. In contrast, the Euro Stoxx 50 (SX5E) rose by 0.39 percent to 6,503 points. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds (US10Y) increased by over 5 basis points to 4.67 percent. Brent crude oil (UKOIL) rose by 5.16 percent to $83.55 per barrel due to uncertainty over free passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Company Rheinmetall (RHM) lowered its revenue forecast following the abandonment of the German F126 frigate project. Honeywell (HON) came under selling pressure after the company cut its outlook due to supply shortages. RWE (RWE) is receiving 1.2 billion dollars from the US government for withdrawing from an offshore wind project.
Airbnb (ABNB) exceeded expectations in the quarter and raised its annual outlook again due to demand in the United States and Europe. Trade Desk (TTD) fell after weaker results and a disappointing outlook. DraftKings (DKNG) missed expectations for revenue and profit, while new forecast markets intensified competition.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) agreed to acquire the Canadian chip developer Taalas, thereby expanding its offerings for AI data centers. Alphabet (GOOGL) raised $25 billion through a bond issuance to finance high AI investments. SoftBank (9984) recorded an increase in value of its Intel stake in its income statement. SK Hynix (000660) lost 10.37 percent after a sudden price drop. In the same industry environment, Samsung Electronics (005930) declined by 6.30 percent.
After a record profit in the first half of the year, Commerzbank (CBK) initiated talks with Unicredit regarding the further ownership structure. AppLovin (APP) plummeted by 19.66 percent to 335.67 dollars.
Macroeconomics According to the White House, the payments agreed upon this year for the planned US offshore wind projects amount to around 4 billion dollars. This changes the investment conditions of the industry. The IMF sees room for further normalization of monetary policy in Japan by the BoJ. This brings the course of the Japanese central bank into focus. The BLS will publish the US labor market report for July on Friday. The data is crucial for the assessment of the monetary policy course.
