Daily Market Report – August 7, 2026
Markets Weak US labor market data supported the S&P 500 (SPX), which closed 0.40 percent higher at 7,741 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) gained 0.78 percent to 29,601 points. The DAX (DAX) increased by 0.69 percent to 26,319 points, while the Shanghai Composite (000001) rose by 1.59 percent to 3,940 points. Brent crude oil (UKOIL) became 1.36 percent more expensive at $83.61, after the blockade of Iranian oil exports and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz intensified concerns about supply. Gold (GOLD) gained 2.40 percent to $4,402.80. Company SK Hynix (000660) is reportedly planning to expand its chip manufacturing in South Korea. At the same time, the company is exploring options for the plant in Chongqing, China. Tencent (0700) caught the attention of investors with its investments in artificial intelligence. Palantir (PLTR) gained 8.78 percent to $169.61. ServiceNow (NOW) rose by 6.44 percent to $124.91.
Volkswagen (VOW3) is under pressure to adapt. The owner families are demanding a faster transformation, along with personnel changes in sales and the planned offensive with pickups in the United States. At Porsche (P911), the demand from the major shareholder for quicker cuts in the Volkswagen Group shaped the news landscape. Siemens (SIE) is expanding production of electrical equipment for data centers in the United States while simultaneously streamlining its management levels.
Novo Nordisk (NVO) launched its weight loss pill in Germany. The sales prospects were received cautiously by the capital market. Boeing (BA) came under the scrutiny of investors due to mandated crack inspections on around 470 aircraft. Rheinmetall (RHM) warned of delays in the procurement of a fighter bomber drone.
SAP (SAP) continued its price recovery. Uber (UBER) gained 6.06 percent to 74.74 dollars.
Macroeconomics According to the BLS, the number of non-farm jobs decreased by 23,000 in July, while the unemployment rate fell to 4.10 percent. The report dampened expectations for a soon tightening of monetary policy. The White House meanwhile confirmed the ongoing talks between the President and the Fed Chair.
