Daily Market Report – August 14, 2026

Markets Weaker US Retail Sales pushed the S&P 500 (SPX) down 0.21 percent to 7,783 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) lost 0.33 percent to 29,986 points. In contrast, the DAX (DAX) closed 0.53 percent higher at 26,440 points, while the Hang Seng (HSI) declined 1.27 percent to 25,117 points. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds (US10Y) rose by about 6 basis points to 4.70 percent. Against the backdrop of the Iran war and announced US sanctions, Brent crude oil (UKOIL) increased by 1.65 percent to $88.51 per barrel. CompanySpaceX (SPCX) reportedly completed the acquisition of the AI programming company Cursor for 60 billion dollars. Alphabet GOOGL) came into focus due to the sharply increased value of its stake in SpaceX (SPCX). Amazon AMZN) saw additional demand from a stock purchase by Thrive Capital amounting to approximately 215 million dollars.

Broadcom (AVGO) lost 6.44 percent to $390.91 due to a renewed reassessment of highly valued AI and semiconductor stocks. Applied Materials (AMAT) declined by 5.42 percent to $505.58 after the earnings report. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), on the other hand, gained 5.17 percent to $507.99. Sandisk (SNDK) continued its weekly rally according to market reports, driven by new impulses for the storage business. Oracle (ORCL) came into focus due to the delay of a gas pipeline for a planned data center in New Mexico until 2027.

Gilead Sciences (GILD) was burdened by a court ruling that prohibits certain health programs from importing its medications from abroad. UnitedHealth (UNH) came into focus following the guilty plea in the criminal case regarding the killing of a corporate manager.

Uber (UBER) reportedly agreed with Pony.ai to deploy 2,000 robotaxis in Europe; a resilient price reaction was not mentioned. Commerzbank (CBK) temporarily surpassed the 40 euro mark for the first time since 2010. SAP (SAP) continued its price rally according to market reports.

Macroeconomics According to the Census Bureau, US retail sales fell by 0.6 percent in July, marking the largest decline in over a year. This dampened expectations for the next interest rate decision by the Fed. The BoJ reportedly signaled preparations for another interest rate increase. At the ECB, the debate over its institutional independence came to the forefront, while the White House announced new measures for the economic isolation of Iran.
