Daily Market Report – August 26, 2026
Markets
The S&P 500 (SPX) closed before the Nvidia numbers with a decrease of 0.02 percent nearly unchanged at 7,676 points. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) rose by 0.05 percent to 29,225 points. The DAX (DAX) finished trading 0.08 percent higher at 26,286 points; the Nikkei 225 (NI225) gained 0.62 percent to 66,262 points. Brent crude oil (UKOIL) decreased by 0.94 percent to 86.45 dollars per barrel, gold (GOLD) by 0.99 percent to 4,647.80 dollars per ounce.
Company
Nvidia (NVDA) doubled its revenue to 96 billion dollars. However, the outlook that exceeded expectations did not fully convince investors in after-hours trading. Lam Research (LRCX) is investing 1.5 billion dollars in Oregon, thereby expanding its research and development for the growing demand for equipment to manufacture AI chips.
Salesforce (CRM) surged 14 percent in after-hours trading after growth exceeded expectations and the company raised its annual forecast. Additionally, there was an intensified collaboration with Anthropic. Okta (OKTA) rose 15 percent in after-hours trading following exceeded expectations and another raised revenue forecast. CrowdStrike (CRWD) gained in after-hours trading because the annual revenue outlook surpassed market expectations. HP (HPQ) declined in after-hours trading. Concerns about demand for computers and printers overshadowed the higher profit forecast.
Meta Platforms (META) agreed to settle lawsuits over alleged damages from social media on teenagers with payments of up to 18 billion dollars as well as additional protective measures. Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) came into focus due to interest from potential buyers in assets and the legal dispute regarding the acquisition by Paramount. Paramount Skydance (PSKY) is reportedly exploring several avenues to resolve the lawsuits against the 110 billion dollar transaction.
Volkswagen (VOW3) announced cuts in management due to excessive costs. At the same time, the future of individual plants was in focus. Siemens Energy (ENR) sharpened its strategic focus with a potential spin-off of its industrial division. Commerzbank (CBK) was in the spotlight ahead of a meeting scheduled for September between the Federal Minister of Finance and the UniCredit CEO regarding the acquisition question.
Macroeconomics
According to the BEA, the core rate of the PCE price index rose by 3.3 percent in July compared to the previous year, thus remaining significant for the monetary policy course of the Fed. According to the White House, the US government plans investments of 2.2 billion dollars in small modular reactors for five military sites. At the same time, it restricts certain foreign equipment for power grids. According to the ECB, Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel called for an interest rate increase in September, thereby intensifying the debate about the next monetary policy step.
